Juliette and Sylvain’s Charming and Fun Paris Wedding

Documentary Destination Wedding Photography

Juliette and Sylvain, true to themselves, organised a wonderfully relaxed and fun wedding. They asked me to document the day in an informal style.

As per French tradition and law, Juliette and Sylvain married in the Mairie (City Hall) of the 9th Arrondissement in Paris on a clear February day. The couple had decided to meet in the courtyard of the Mairie. Family and friends had gathered from all over the world to witness the wedding in the grand hall of the Mairie. It must be said that the groom was the last to arrive!

Both Juliette and Sylvain asked their respective parents to lead them to the ceremony.  The Mayor’s deputy conducted the proceedings with seriousness, panache, and humour, encouraging the newlyweds to have many children so as to fill in all the pages of the ‘Livret de Famille’ given to every married couple in France.

After the ceremony, we were able to capture some very relaxed group photos before the Wedding Party made its way to the  Commune Image Restaurant reserved for the wedding.  The cinema-themed venue was perfectly suited to that very Parisian love of all things to do with the 7th Art, whilst allowing guests to enjoy wonderful food and drink in a very atmospheric setting.  A record-breaking number of speeches were given that day by family and close friends after the Breakfast and at the evening due as well.  Juliette and Sylvain equally exchanged their wedding vows.

Sylvain’s family, from the North of France, treated the newlyweds to the ‘Vivat Flamand’, a rite where Champagne is gently poured on a cloth that forms a symbolic arch above the couple, whilst honouring them with a song wishing them a long and happy life.

With Sylvain and Juliette we managed to make the best of the old-style movie house settings to capture some quirky and loving photos of just the two of them, produced in a very contemporary style.

The evening was livened up, not only by a wonderful rock band, but also by the performances of Juliette’s father and a close family friend. If that wasn’t enough, Sylvain picked up his violin to jam with the musicians.

When I left around midnight the evening was still going strong.
